SharkSchool® on Red Sea One: BDE Liveaboard week with shark expert Heike Schoenthal – an unforgettable adventure!
Join us on a very special diving safari in the Red Sea: experience the legendary BDE tour (Brothers – Daedalus – Elphinstone) and immerse yourself in a world full of big fish, breathtaking reefs and unforgettable encounters with sharks.
🦈The special thing about this tour:
Shark expert Heike Schoenthal from SharkSchool® is also on board. You have the unique opportunity not only to experience sharks up close, but also to understand their behavior – expertly explained by an experienced specialist. Every day there are workshops and briefings with Heike on the topics of behavior, communication and misunderstandings when dealing with sharks. You will learn how to dive safely and respectfully with these fascinating animals.
This diving safari is ideal for all those who not only want to be amazed, but also want to understand – and for all those who want to encounter sharks with respect, knowledge and fascination.
There is never an absolute guarantee of shark encounters – we are in the wild! But the chances of seeing some of the following sharks are very good, especially at this time of year and of course at these dive sites in particular:
🦈 Whitetip shark (Carcharhinus longimanus) – often found in the open sea close to the boat
🦈 Grey reef shark – mainly around the Brothers Islands, very active in the early morning hours
🦈 Hammerhead – good chances on Daedalus Reef, especially in the early morning hours. Usually in small schools a little deeper (from 25-30 m)
🦈 Thresher sharks – rarer, but occasionally seen at the Brothers. Very shy, but beautiful with their long tail fin
🦈 Silky shark – sometimes also at the Brothers or in deeper, open water
The dive sites:
🦈 The Brother Islands are two small islands in the middle of the Red Sea, Big Brother and Little Brother. They are undoubtedly among the best diving spots in the world and are known for their impressive coral growth, countless schools of fish, but especially for large fish and sharks. The Brothers offer an immense density of marine life in a very small area. Sponges, anemones, all kinds of hard and soft corals in an incredible variety of colors and shapes adorn the walls. Gray reef sharks, thresher sharks, hammerhead sharks or oceanic whitetip sharks – a lot is possible here. The Brothers also have two shipwrecks to offer: “Numidia” and the “Aida”.
🦈 Daedalus Reef is located 180 km south of the Brother Islands. The reef is surrounded by a steep wall and has a plateau on the south side. Whole schools of hammerhead sharks are often spotted on the north wall, where conditions are sometimes a little rougher! Dolphins can also keep us company here. On the southern plateau, in addition to occasional and overwhelming thresher shark visits, impressive and diverse schools of fusiliers, surgeonfish and mackerel await.
🦈 Elphinstone is also a very spectacular reef with some bizarre currents. Beautiful plateaus, breathtaking steep walls covered with gorgonians, wire corals, black corals and soft corals make divers’ hearts beat faster. Longimani and barracudas regularly pass by. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a gray shark or a tiger shark.
